Faith Matters 2017 – Donation Drive for homeless charity RuFus
Our young single adults together with young people of other faith communities will be assembling street packs and home starter packs for homeless people, and those transitioning into accommodation, on behalf of the RuFus charity as part of this year’s ‘Faith Matters’ week 19-26 August. A donation drive will be held prior to the service project day and items needed will be advertised over the next few months. Lend a hand if you can! Read about last year’s project here:
Another day of bushfire recovery Mormon Helping Hands service
Saturday 16 January brings another opportunity to assist with the Pinery bushfire recovery effort. Organiser Damien Pilkington is looking for 20-30 volunteers to help with debris clean up at two properties which were not assisted on December 28. Please call him on 0411 690 805 for more information. Residents have been devastated by the fires and are very grateful for our help. Join in if you can!
Back-to-school supplies for Bushfire-Affected Families
Morphett Vale resident and creator of the Adelaide Fires 2015 Facebook page, Rachel Thistleton, is calling for donations of back-to-school supplies for families who lost many, if not all, possessions in the recent Pinery bushfires. This is the post with information:
This morning I let residents know that we would be putting together back to school packs like we did after Sampson Flat … and we already have 70 kids registered; with more coming in!
It’s a fantastic, practical and cheap way to help. We’ll be delivering them to the children as a nice surprise the last week of January.
If you can help out at all with NEW donations of the following to help with the transition back to school for kids after a very stressful few months; the below is what we need:
White/grey school socks
Black/white school shoes
Back to school snacks (muesli bars, multi-bag chips, Le Snacks, roll-ups, dried fruit etc.)
You can make up a whole back pack, or just purchase a single item from the list-it all counts and adds up!
Great thing to do with work colleagues, sports groups, family, friendship or church groups. Deliveries to 5 Sherfield Rd Morphett Vale or 8c Bayer Rd Elizabeth South. Please spread the word; so we can put smiles on children’s faces”
If you wish to help, get in touch with Caroline McIlwaine on 0405 154608 for Rachel’s phone number. Quite a few members of the church supported this last January after the Sampson Flat Fires.
Did you know 1 in 3 Australians will need blood in their lifetime, yet only 1 in 30 donate?
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has joined the mission to save lives by supporting the Australian Red Cross Blood Service’s group donation program, Red25. Each week Australia needs the generous gift of over 25,000 donors to meet the demand of patients in need. This year, between 1 September and 31 October, the Church and the Blood Service are trying for 500 donations from Church members. This will save 1500 lives!
We know you’re busy, so we’re making this simple…
1. Book an appointment – call 13 14 95 to book an appointment to donate between 1 September and 30 October.
2. Join Red25 – help us track how many lives the Church has saved by making your donations count towards our blood drive. Join our Red25 group at any time online here: https://www.donateblood.com.au/who-can-give/red25/join-group or when you donate.
3. Donate – join the movement and donate blood. It only takes 60 minutes of your time. Remember to drink plenty of water beforehand!
Through Red25 we’re working alongside other organisations to achieve 25% of all blood donations needed in Australia. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is proud to be supporting this mission during September and October and we hope you will be too.
